Unnatural Part Two

When I woke up, all I felt was a sharp stab in my shoulderblades. The scientists crowded around me, I could hear them. But I didn't open my eyes. I was trying to make sense of it all.

"Subject B1857, Experiment W14, Success."  A scientist said.

At this point in time, I realized that I wasn't on the metal bed, but rather sitting cross-legged in a cage. My green eyes searched frantically. I was clothed in the same tank top and jeans as I have had for the last 4 years. They led me out of the cage, a gun between my two shoulder blades. I was used to it by now, but something pink and fluffy caught my eyes.

I remember being so confused, but had no words. Though I didn't have the best education, I knew some words.. I just.. Didn't know what to do. They led me to a different room, one I have never been in before. They shoved me in, slamming the thick metal door slamming behind me. I turned to look at it, and through the dim light I could see the claw marks. I let out a short gasp. There were claws and dents everywhere, clearly from different people.. Or things.
I gently rested my hand on the sharp metal. A shock of sadness, anger and fear came to my mind, and I nearly screamed at the intensity.

"What the Hell.." I muttered, my eyes wide. "This is so weird.."

A voice behind me replied, clearly feminine, "That it is."

I turned to face the darkness, trying to see who spoke. "What did they do to me.."
The silhouette showed as the person walked closer. She was the same girl I saw earlier, the one they took. I swallowed hard. Her blue eyes were so filled with fear. I was so concentrated on her fear, that was wafting off of her, I almost didn't hear her reply.

"You have wings.. They are beautiful.."

I froze, my voice more cautious then a polar bear on thin ice. "I have wings..? Like an Angel?"

It took a while for the other girl to respond. "Yes.. Actually," she contemplated a bit more. "More like a hawk, or an eagle. But sort of like an Angel."

My voice was shaky, "What did they do to you?" I slowly turned to look at my arm, where the "name" I was called was tattooed on.

The girl replied, "I'm.. A human that's a wolf."

"So, like a werewolf."

"Not exactly. I can be either, wolf or human, but instead of having a werewolf form, I.." She blinked, disappearing into the darkness before coming back with wolf ears and a tail. "I have these."

I slowly nodded, "What's your name.. Like, your real name."

The girl started slowly. "I can't tell you. I am a wanted criminal."

I blinked a few times, my eyes meeting her unnaturally blue ones. "Your eyes are so vibrant, they seem to glow."

The girl seemed shocked. "So are yours, they are emerald. It's really weird."

We stood in silence for a while before I moved to sit on the ground. "My name is Alita.. But I am thinking of changing it."

The girl that looked my age didn't say anything. "How about Evie.. I added that to my middle name. It means 'ever', like you will fight forever for what's right." She let out a quiet laugh, her voice sarcastic. "It sounds stupid, I know. But, I guess I needed something."

I smiled. "Nice to meet you, I'm Evie."

Blue eyes met green. "Nice to meet you, call me Unknown, Since H1560 is a bit difficult."
It took me a while to respond. "How about I call you H."

She nodded, smiling. "Sure, knock yourself out."

There was a long moment of silence.

I muttered to her, and though I didn't know it then, I was speaking on such a high frequency that only we, having animal DNA, could hear. "We should escape."

We talked in our high frequency. It was like our own secret language. We knew people were watching us, so we pretended to be stupid. Muttering to ourselves. We eventually came up with a plan. A very bad one. The chances it would work..? Small. Very small.

But it was also simple. Basically, when the people came to open our cage, we would run for it. We would free as many people as we could. The two of us promised to always be together. No matter what. In a way, she was like my sister. I felt like I could relate to her. But the more I looked at her, the more I thought about Addy. The time came though. The time to run.

And run, we did.

We ran faster than probably the laws of running. As fast as we could. My wings slowed me down, for I had no idea how to use them. But we managed anyway, freeing quite a few people. And actually it all seemed too easy.

Because no one tried to stop us.

We found our way out, and we celebrated, her looking down, due to her being a few inches taller. Blue meets green, our eyes shining. At that moment, I found two small rings on the ground. One with silver wings, and a pink gem; the other with gold wings, and a green gem. I picked then up, handing her the silver one. "For you."

I never thought I'd see the eyes so happy.

Or scared.

But it was then that we ran, heading off into the forest. But H.. she disappeared. The one moment I turned, she was gone. All that was left was a small card. One that read: "Holli Yukiro-Evi Kyo."
But I was confused. It took me a long time to realize that H, or should I call her Holli, was gone. I slumped to the ground. But a call came out, and though I normally probably wouldn't have cared, I cared now.

It was like family, the noise of a hawk. I looked to see a hawk land by my feet. I got up, watching it.

The bird hopped along, every once in a while doing a bigger hop and letting its wings hold it. Hop, hop, hop, hop, glide. Over and over again. Feeling foolish, I imitated it. I was surprised to feel my feet not touch the ground, my wings straining to hold me. They were so weak.

But when the bird stared at me, I noticed that its eyes, were an unnatural shade of gray. Hawks couldn't have grey eyes.. Could they? I shrugged. I didn't know much about them, so why not.
Eventually the bird flew away, landing in a tree a while away.

I wasn't ready for what happened next.
